ABOUT THE KEYNOTER
Rodney Scaife is responsible for leading the design and delivery of AOL’s Global Workforce Mobility programs in the areas of Expatriate Management, Immigration, Relocations, and Global HR support. Within the new AOL “global, centralized” structure the Global HR Support Program leads HR efforts in new and emerging markets charged with designing benefits and payroll operations. Rodney Scaife and his team also focuses on generating global employment guidelines and processes in support of AOL’s expanding global business operations and Global HR teams.
Prior to his current role, his professional career has spanned 16 years and taken two paths; first in various Sales and Operations roles, managing teams and markets that generated up to $80MM in sales; then he moved into strategic Human Resources roles as an HR Business Partner. Rodney Scaife holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Delta State University and completed his Executive Education, from Cornell University focused on Strategic Human Resources. Rodney is a member of Worldwide Employee Relocation Council (ERC), Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM), and the National Football League Players Association for retired players (NFLPA).

THE TAKE-AWAY
The session will cover the labor and social security implications for outgoing employees, local labour/HR procedures, payroll procedures, maintenance of a local employment relationship, tax filing requirements -severance of a tax residence or not. Departing Brazil may not necessarily mean moving from a low cost to a potential high cost location, due to the increased labor and social security implications. Most Brazilian employees will want to guarantee continued contributions to the social security scheme, employees indemnity fund and private pension plans, among other benefits provided under local labor laws.

Fabia Bernarde has a Degree in Law and has participated on the LL.M. Program as a Visiting Scholar, at Duke University, in U.S.A. She has been working in the labor area for the last 16 years and started her career in PwC 9 years ago. Through the course of her career with PWC, Fabia has acquired extensive experience in labor and social security matters and joined PwC IAS department 5 years ago with a focus on IAS consultation for multinational clients.
Flavia Fernandes joined PwC 8 years ago in the Individual Tax Department. Flavia has experience in dealing with multinational companies, family business and high net worth individuals. She holds a degree in Law and a postgraduate degree in Corporate and Economics Law at the FGV/Management - Fundação Getúlio Vargas, in Campinas – SP, with an extension course at the "Center for International Business, Education & Development" - CIBED at the Ohio University, US. Flavia has participated at several conferences on Taxation of Individuals in Brazil and the US as a speaker.

Federico Solis is a Partner, based in Costa Rica. Mr. Solis is the Global Partner responsible for Fragomen's Latin American region. Prior to merging with Fragomen, Mr. Solis was head of the Employment and Immigration division for Facio & Cañas, a well renowned law firm in Costa Rica. He brings extensive experience in providing a wide range of legal counsel to corporations with a presence in Costa Rica. In addition to immigration law, Mr. Solis' fields of expertise include designing compensation and benefits plans, and employment and social security treatment for foreign workers. He graduated from Law School in 1996 (Universidad Internacional de las Américas, Costa Rica), and has concluded graduate programs in tax (Universidad Internacional de Andalucía) and corporate law, Diploma, Program on Legal Aspects of International Business, INCAE and Georgetown University Law Center (1998-1999). Diego A. Archer, Corporate Relations & Content Manager - Latin America, Attorney at Law from El Salvador - Central America. Universidad Dr. Jose Matias Delgado (Licenciatura en Derecho - Law Degree, San Salvador, El Salvador); Case Western Reserve University (L.L.M. in International Business Law, Cleveland, Ohio). Mr. Archer currently manages business development and relations in the Latin American Region. He also supervises all content related issues such as legal opinions, legislative proposals and regulation changes. In addition, Mr. Archer has worked with numerous companies in providing immigration advice for the region, including permanent transfers, temporary assignments, technical and business visits, as well as entertainment shows. Before joining the firm, Mr. Archer accompanied the Salvadoran Delegation for the Application for Revision of the Judgment of 11 September 1992 before the International Court of Justice in The Hague, The Netherlands, and addressed nationality and immigration concerns for individuals in the disputed Honduran areas; he also served with the prosecution team for the case of Slodoban Milosevic in the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, and has written memoranda for the Special Court of Sierra Leone for the Charles Taylor case. In addition, Mr. Archer served four years in the Supreme Court of Justice of El Salvador resolving constitutional matters.
