With over 5,000 professionals operating in 70 countries, we help organizations manage the health and safety risks facing their travelers, global workforce and customers.. In the early 1980s, Pascal Rey-Herme, a French doctor was sent out to work for the French Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia. He soon became aware of the great demand for international standards of healthcare from the wider expatriate community and from international organizations working in the region. Together with his childhood friend Arnaud Vaissié, who had been pursuing a business career in the United States and managing the US subsidiary of a large German financial group, they set up a company dedicated to providing international standards of medical care and emergency medical assistance in the Asia Pacific region. Thus AEA International was founded in 1985. The concept of providing high quality medical care and consulting services to multi-national companies operating in Asia Pacific met very strong demand. Starting with just 15 staff, AEA International grew rapidly from its base in Singapore and Indonesia into a pan-Asian corporation, creating operating companies in Hong Kong, Australia, Japan and mainland China. By 1995, the company was present in every country of the Asia Pacific region. In 1995, AEA International ventured out of the Asia Pacific region, creating subsidiaries in France and the USA. Subsequently through internal growth and acquisition, AEA International became the largest operator in its field in the United States, and the worldwide leader for medical assistance services. In 1998 AEA International was renamed International SOS. From its inception to the present day, the organization focuses on offering corporations a complete solution to their business needs. It has created a new industry in international healthcare and integrated medical and security assistance.

INTERNATIONAL EMPLOYMENT LAW:
THE EVOLVING ASIAN WORKPLACE LAW LANDSCAPE -
NEW DEVELOPMENTS AND HR SURVIVAL STRATEGIES FOR US MANAGERS
As Asia continues to grow as the global offshoring haven and increases its contribution to global GDP and the expanding global middle class, the legal regulation of the workplace is also evolving to adapt to the demands of globalization.

This presentation will focus on recent employment law development in three major Asian economies, Japan, China and India and will address the following issues:
• Japan – the art of hiring, strategies for managing employees and techniques for lawfully terminating employees;
• China - the fast-past new employment regulations covering employment contracts, harassment and valid grounds for terminating the employment relationship; and
• India – archaic employment laws and unappreciated legal challenges.
